Americas TB Summit, 9-12 October
The Americas TB Summit will be a regional meeting of parliamentarians from across the region, taking place in Guadalajara from 9 to 12 October 2017, during the Union Conference.
The Summit will focus on the regional efforts to tackle the disease and the importance of a collaborative work from legislative, governments, civil society and international organisations. Delegates will agree a proposal for how the Americas will joint efforts to tackle TB, including a minimum legal standard on tuberculosis for Latin-American countries.
The Americas TB Caucus (ATBC) is the regional network from the Global TB Caucus, an organization that gathers over 2,300 active members of parliament from over 130 countries. The ATBC was founded in March 2016, with the representation of ten countries, and has grown to being represented in 22 of the 35 countries in the region. Our mission is to work in the different countries to promote a holistic response to the TB epidemic.
Although the Americas have the lowest TB rates, the region still carries a considerable burden of the disease, with an estimative of nearly 300 thousand new cases in 2015. The region is joining efforts to develop a proper response to the TB epidemic, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, the End TB Strategy and the Global Plan to End TB.
